UIL Academics Competition – Limited Spots Available

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) offers the most comprehensive program of academic competition in the nation.  UIL Academics offers interesting and challenging contests for grades 2-8.  These activities, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students and give them the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills.  This year, Great Oaks Elementary will participate in 9 different categories of UIL Academics including:  Art (4th & 5th Gr.), Chess Puzzles (2nd – 5th Gr.), Creative Writing (2nd Gr.), Music Memory (4th & 5th Gr.), Number Sense (4th & 5th Gr.), Oral Reading (4th & 5th Gr.), Ready Writing (3rd – 5th Gr.), Spelling (3rd – 5th Gr.), and Story Telling (2nd & 3rd Gr.).  Students will meet 10 times after school to prepare for the UIL competition on Saturday, January 26, 2019.

If you are interested in having your student join one of these groups, please see the attached flyer for information on how to register.  Groups are limited to the first 15 participants that register online.  The first meeting will be on Monday, Oct. 22nd.

RRISD Enrollment and Registration page

On-line new student registration will open on July 5, 2018.

Beginning Wednesday, March 21, we will implement the new morning procedures to improve safety. Students will only be able to enter the school at two main locations in the morning beginning at the following times:

7:00 a.m. Car Rider Entrance – for students only
7:25 a.m. Main Entrance – for students and parents

Main Entrance Clarification:

If parents or family would like to escort their students into the building in the morning, they may walk into the office hallway up to the main hallway intersection and say goodbye at the hug zone. Any adults wishing to travel further into the building will need a Raptor sticker. Adults can access the Raptor System in the front office. Please note that adults will need their driver’s license for the Raptor System if they have not updated in the system after October 2017. Please be patient with us if you choose this option as it may take some time to issue the stickers.

Students coming from the back bike rack will need to walk down the sidewalk to the Car Rider Entrance. The cafeteria entrance will be only for students riding a bus.

Thank you for your help and patience as we make this change to improve the safety of our students.
