Great Oaks Elementary School 
Nicola Kallenbach is a former student of Kathleen Mury, an assistant principal at Great Oaks Elementary. Nicola is a junior at McNeil HS and is working to complete her Girl Scout Gold Award. As part of her Gold Project, and with some help from her dad, Nicola made two benches, one for Great Oaks and one for Sommer Elementary School, where she was in Mrs. Mury’s class. Nicola is a wonderful young woman who has a heart for service.
In the back of the bench are drawers to collect gently used books from our campus families. The plan is to collect books during our book fairs and donate them to the RRISD backpack coalition or directly to a Title 1 school to get books into the hands of students who may not have many at home.
We will keep the bench in the main hallway until Spring Break and then it will move into its permanent home in the library.
